What’s your favorite season?
My favorite is…… Autumn!
私が一番好きなのは…秋です！
Autumn foliage, cool & and crisp temperatures, Harvest, flowers, and a time of quietude & and calmness. Everything in Autumn is splendid. But, this autumn, the temperature highs and lows are so extreme, right!? I like this season because it’s a comfortable temperature….Well, it can’t be helped.
紅葉、涼しい気候、作物の収穫、コスモスなどの花、そして静けさと穏やかさ。すべてが美しいです。でも今年の秋、寒暖の差が激しくないです⁉涼しくて過ごしやすいから好きなのに…仕方ないですね。
In Japanese, there are terms related to Autumn such as the season for sports, eating, the arts, and reading. Actually, this is a uniquely cultural and traditional expression. Japan is famous for having four seasons, and it’s possible that many words and expressions in the language have emerged from the attitude of enjoying each season.
日本語には秋に関連する単語が多くありますよね。スポーツの秋、食欲の秋、芸術の秋、読書の秋。こういう表現って日本独特の文化的な表現ってご存じですか？日本は四季があることで有名ですが、それぞれの季節を楽しもうとする姿勢から生まれた言葉なのかもしれないですね。

秋は英語で言うと【Fall】のイメージがありませんか？
私は今回のブログであえて『Autumn』を使ってみたのですが、イギリス英語とアメリカ英語の差なんです。
イギリス英語ではAutumnが使われることが多くて、日本の教科書の標準になっているアメリカ英語ではFallが使われています。
イギリス英語とアメリカ英語は発音だけでなく単語やスペルそのものが異なることもあるので、またシェアしますね！
そしてFallそのものは秋と落ちる(動)の意味があります。
葉が「落ちる」から「Fall」が秋を表すようになったそうです。
